The Medicine Bank which was started as a one of its kind initiatives emerged out of an individual effort during the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic, has now turned into a successful community-based project that has been making continuous progress in extending humanitarian aid during multiple disasters including the 2022 Assam floods.
The Medicine Bank has so far been able to distribute over 500 KGs of free medicines to the needy & sick across the states of Bihar, Assam and Uttar Pradesh. Dr Pranab J Patar, convener of this drive mobilized medicines through in-kind support both from individuals as well as organizations across Delhi NCR.
For the 2022 floods in Assam, Medicine Bank has donated over 130 kgs of essential medicines worth over Rs 1 lac; Shri Rituraj Borah, who is a Delhi-based energy professional, coordinated with certain corporations including fashion brands like URBANIC, who demonstrated spirited participation by donating medicines to this unique drive.
Till date, the Medicine Bank has received support from organisations including Global Foundation (GFAEHW) – New Delhi, 7X Welfare Team – Noida, Care Luit, Assam People’s Welfare Association (APWA) of Trans-Yamuna Region of Delhi NCR and URBANIC India.
With the free medicines received from Medicine Bank, the Morigaon District Branch (Assam) of Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) under the Chairmanship of Dr P R Patar, Retd Joint Director of Assam Health Services, undertook a series of free health check camps in some of the worst affected areas in Morigaon district in the recent floods.
